Rahil Nora Chopra : After so much discussion and talks on the role of caste and claims of caste party alignment becoming fluid and making caste irrelevant in Bihar election., the results clearly show that caste has played a major role and BJP, Congress are mainly upper caste parties and RJD and JD(U) have been preferred by Yadav’s and Kurmi’s and other OBC’s. BJP this time has given 47.3 per cent of their tickets to upper caste predominantly Rajput’s and Baniyas. Congress distributed 40 per cent of 70 tickets to upper caste candidates and 27 per cent to Muslim candidate. JD(U) has given more tickets to Kurmi, Yadav’s and 25 per cent tickets to non Yadav and non kurmi but RJD distributed nearly a third of its tickets to Yadav candidate and remaining 70 per cent to other caste according to local demography and patterns of dominance. 12.5 per cent of its tickets were given to Muslims.
